1875 era Spear and Jackson No 24 28″ 4 point rip saw rates fine overall. Blade is 28″ long and 7 3/4″ high at heel. Blade is clean and bright with very faint etch. Fully carved English Beech handle is exceptional with just the smallest of wear and nice ray flecks on sides, finish 99%. Handle still has paper label around the main medallion which is hard to read.
Spear and Jackson was a very prolific saw maker which operated out of Sheffield, England from 1830 to 1920. This saw is a museum piece but is ready to go to work. The massive 4 point teeth are beautifully graduated on the 28 long breasted edge. This saw appears to have been used a couple times and kept in the till. The best way to describe it is “majestic”. Not messed with in any way, the split nut screws are still as tight as the day it was made and have not been adjusted at all with the file marks still aligned. A truly fantastic saw for the discriminating sawyer.
As with all our first quality saws, this saw is sharp, set and ready to cut!
